Worthing Raiders head coach Kieron Dawson felt his side's 27-26 final-day National 2 South home success was a perfect illustration of their campaign.

Raiders looked to be heading to a comfortable win over Clifton when Scott Barlow went over two minutes after the break to put his side 20-7 ahead.

However, Clifton would not go away and secured 14 points in a 16-minute period to give them hope of an unlikely comeback.

In the end, Dawson’s side held on for a one point win but Raiders’ head coach felt it should have been a lot more convincing win.

He said: “I think the game perfectly showed you our season.

“We played some really good stuff in patches but then followed that up by doing some mind-blowing stupid things.

“But it was nice to end the season with a win.”

Raiders only made sure of their National 2 South safety with a 32-20 home triumph over Dorking a week earlier.

And Dawson praised his side for their performance level after what had been achieved in their last game.

He added: “This game could well have been a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show for us.

“The win over Dorking took a lot out of us and we knew survival was secured after that.

“But credit to the players, they wanted to give something back after the great support we have had all season.
