Rye and Fairlight were honoured in recent Sussex Heritage Trust Awards presented in Pyecombe.

The Awards seek to recognise high quality conservation, restoration and good design of newly built projects and encourage the use of traditional skills and crafts.

Kino Rye collected a prestigious award for the preservation and restoration of a collection of Victorian School buildings, which had been left empty and fallen into disrepair. A local volunteers group named ‘Fletcher in the Rye’ were formed – named after local playwright John Fletcher – which preserved the site to promote film and arts in Rye.

Also a 2015 winner in the Landscape and Garden category were the gardens at Fairlight End in Pett, which the judges noted as “a thoughtful and beautiful integration of the countryside and garden landscape with contemporary elements.”

Each winner receives a hand crafted slate plaque to be displayed at the winning site.
