Horsham woman to trek Great Wall for Alzheimer’s Society
Taking place from the Saturday September 27 to Monday October 6, Carly will join 36 of her colleagues from Argos and Homebase for the mammoth trek from Huangyaguan to Mutianyu.
Collectively the 37-strong group of trekkers hope to raise a staggering £120,000 to support people living with dementia. In order to reach her target, Carly persuaded a male colleague to wax his legs; held local concerts for her musical friends; and organised work football matches.

“I’ve never done anything like this before although I’m really excited to be taking on the challenge; absorbing myself in the Chinese culture and trekking one of the great wonders of the world for Alzheimer’s Society.
“My Granddad lives with dementia and I’m a Dementia Friend myself, so I know the challenges the condition presents. I’m very happy to take on this challenge step-by-step, knowing that my fundraising will support people living with condition in our local area.”
All Homebase fundraising will go towards helping thousands of people with dementia stay in their own home and be part of community life for longer. Together Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer Scotland and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland are Homebase and Argos’ charity partner 2013 – 2015. The money raised by Homebase and Argos colleagues and customers will fund Singing for the Brain® groups, Dementia Cafes and Dementia Support services around the UK and Ireland.
