Now living in Hove, she was training as a teacher at Bishop Otter College, Chichester, at the time, and from 1949 to 1951, she would often see Chichester's Bishop George Bell '“ the 50th anniversary of whose death is being commemorated this year '“ on his visits to the college.
The festival audience consisted of hundreds of clergy and parishioners from all over the diocese. "The crowd was addressed by the Rev K D Carnegie, rector of one of the oldest parishes in Kingston, Jamaica," said Mrs Stone.

Hide AdThere followed a pageant of 11 scenes illustrating the work of the Church throughout the ages and the worldwide spread of the gospel.
"One hundred and fifty performers of all ages took part," Mrs Stone recalls.
