Volunteers at the Brighton RNLI station were ‘heartbroken’ to find their collection box had been broken into and emptied this morning.

A spokesman posted on a photo on Twitter showing the collection box laying empty on the ground.

“Our volunteers are working very hard at this difficult time to keep launching to rescue those who need us,” the spokesman said.

“This just makes it harder.”

Responding online, Twitter user Iain Holder wrote: “It beggars belief. I’ve just donated to try and make up for it.

“Thank you for all you do.”
