The ‘Bumbling Buffoons’, made up of Cathy, Sue, Eva, Tara, Denise, and Nicki, aged from 16 to 60, (pictured, from left), will take part in the charity’s seventh ladies-only Night to Remember midnight walk in Eastbourne on Saturday, May 14, A number of those in the team are teaching assistants at Cradle Hill County Primary School, Seaford. A former pupil at Cradle Hill benefited from the facilities offered by Chestnut Tree and others in the team have also had experience of family members needing support from the charity. A spokesperson for the team said: “We all think fondly of our friends and loved ones who have been supported so well by Chestnut Tree, especially at such difficult times for these young families.” On their name, team leader Denise said, “The team name came from a moment of silliness, however, it seemed to fit us all, especially as we all get through our busy lives in our own bumbling supportive way. We also make sure we all have a few laughs along the way.” “We are really looking forward to the walk; it is always such a great atmosphere and the times goes really quickly as you are just chatting and walking. We especially like the chocolate stops along the way.” The 10 mile route will start on the promenade at the Sovereign Centre in Eastbourne. It will follow on to Sovereign Harbour and loop around then continue to Holywell and back to the Sovereign Centre, taking in the seafront. There is also a four-mile route, and those opting for that distance will return to the Sovereign Centre after the harbour route. Last year’s event saw 682 women from across the county walk to raise funds for the charity. Registration for Chestnut Tree’s Night to Remember midnight walk closes on Monday, May 2.
